Volume beside a prior swing low

The desk writes one volume remark at the swing that matters: quiet, ordinary, or heavy. The rest of the histogram stays in the background.

Volume on a prepared swing chart is a remark, not a second picture. At Notion Keystone the histogram is glanced at, then reduced to a word beside the swing low that still matters: quiet, ordinary, or heavy. That word goes on the sheet. The bars themselves are not traced onto the price page.

A quiet test of a prior swing low means the decline into it did not draw a crowd. For a multi-day hold that is often the more interesting case, because the level was met without a drama you will be tempted to reinterpret later. A heavy test means participation spiked. It does not, by itself, mean the low will hold or fail. It means the next session’s calm or panic has a comparison.

We refuse two habits. The first is colouring every tall bar as if it were a signal. The second is ignoring volume entirely because it once misled someone. The remark is comparative: heavier or lighter than the bars around that swing, not heavier than some ideal. If you cannot see a difference, the word on the sheet is ordinary, and ordinary is allowed to be the whole note.

Where the low is a gap rather than a cluster of candles, we still use the same three words, judged on the bar that opened away and the bar that came back, if one did. A gap with no return is recorded as untested. Untested is not the same as strong. It means the level has not been asked a question yet, so the sheet does not pretend it has answered one.

This stays inside swing-trading chart preparation. We are not ranking names by volume, and we are not teaching a scan. The remark exists so that, a week into the hold, you can remember what the test felt like without rebuilding the story from a brighter memory.

In the preparation hour the volume note is the shortest step on purpose. If it starts to eat the clock, the chart has too many candidate lows and we go back to choosing the one swing the hold actually cares about.
